Immortal Yogis of the Himalayas

Whenever you think of the majestic Himalayas, what thought comes to your mind? Beautiful, cold and serene mountains, however, there are also a lot of mysteries associated with it, continue reading if you would like to know about once such incident involving the immortal Yogis of The Himalayas.

This article is based on a true incident, experienced by Akash (name changed) somewhere in 1962. Akash was a resident of Haridwar in Uttar Pradesh, back then Uttarakhand didn't exist. He decided to go for a pilgrimage to the Holy shrine of Badrinath. He took a bus for the same, in those days, there weren't a lot of hotels or lodges in the area.

Akash had a good trip and was returning back home, they had camped on the plains of the mountains. It was a beautiful place, there was only one bus per day to take the pilgrims from the plains back to the city. However, Akash got late and missed the bus in the morning.

Now, since there was only one bus per day, he would have to wait till the next day for the bus. Till then he was all alone and by himself. As he was travelling alone, no other passenger seemed to  notice his absence. Akash was quite disappointed as there was not much he could do, still he thought of walking around and exploring the forest nearby on his own.

He started walking towards the forest and after some time, felt tired and hungry, so he sat down to take some rest, while admiring the abundance of natural beauty all around him. He also seemed to have lost his way, as he could not find the path leading back to his camping area. Exhausted and upset with his situation, he started looking around for some kind of help, but there was not a single soul in sight.

At that moment, suddenly, he saw a Sage/ Hermit or a Yogi walking towards him. Akash felt a ray of hope and ran towards the Yogi, asking him for any kind of help. The Yogi looked really old but had a glow on his face and a sparkle in his eyes.

The Yogi told Akash to follow him and promised to help him out too. Akash started following the Yogi, who took him towards some rocks. Near one of the rocks, was a narrow opening leading into a cave. The cave was huge and there were a lot of other Yogis & Hermits inside, all in deep meditation or the 'Samadhi' stage. Akash looked around with bewildered eyes.

Awe-struck Akash finally asked the Yogi who were all these people, to which the Yogi replied, "These are all the great Sages/ Yogis of the Past and they are all in the state of 'Samadhi'. The Saptarishis and many others." To this Akash asked, "Why are they in 'Samadhi'? The world needs them, they could help and do so much for the society at large."

The Yogi smilingly replied, "Nobody can intervene in the ways of the Lord, not even them. They are in 'Samadhi' because they are waiting, for the current age or 'Kalyuga' to pass." Akash questioned, "What place is this?" and he had a million other questions crossing his mind in the short period of time, that he had been in this cave.

To this the Yogi said, "You are on the footsteps of Heaven and mortals like you cannot stay here for long period of time. It could be dangerous. You should leave at once, you needed help so I brought you here." Akash replied, "How will I go back, I have lost my way and the bus which can take me home does not come back before tomorrow morning."

The Yogi said, "I have a solution for this, relax, sit down and close your eyes." Akash was even more puzzled and said, "How will this help? I need to get going and you are asking me to sit down." The Yogi again replied in a calm voice, "Just do as I say and you will be fine." So eventually, Akash did as he was told and after he opened his eyes, only a few seconds later.

He was aghast, for he found himself sitting on the banks of the river Ganges, on the ghats of Haridwar. Was Akash hallucinating, dreaming, or are time travel/ time warp/ teleportation for real? There could be endless theories as to how Akash could cover the distance of 200 miles or 300 kms in short span of few seconds without actually moving.

Was Akash lying about it all? Well, he to this day believes, what he saw and experienced was absolutely true. Do let me know what is your opinion about Akash and his extraordinary experience.
